What is Shortwave Radio?

← Back to Pages

Shortwave radio refers to radio frequencies typically between 1.6 and 30 MHz. These signals can travel long distances by bouncing off the ionosphere, allowing transmissions to be received across countries and continents.

It is commonly used for international broadcasting, amateur radio communication, and various utility or military transmissions.

Conditions in the ionosphere change based on solar activity, which is why solar data is often tracked alongside shortwave listening.
